Dimensional Weighing Scales in the Central Carolina Scale Electronic Catalog

Determining the dimensional weight of an item is a straightforward process, yet this time-consuming task can result in big and expensive problems when errors occur. Most major shipping companies designate their charges for shipping packages based on what is called the dim weight or dimensional weight (DW) of the object being shipped. The standard formula for determining the dimensional weight of an item is (DW = length (L) x width (W) x height (H) divided by a dimensional weight conversion factor, usually 194 for domestic shipping. International service is calculated by dividing by 166. Utilized by most shipping carriers for billing, these calculations are used to consider the amount of space a package will take up in relation to the weight of the package. When these calculations are inaccurate due to poor dimensional measuring techniques, the result affects everyone involved. They can become a big problem by changing the way businesses handle both shipping and storage.

A ruler or tape measure was the traditional method to measure boxes. In an assembly production line or a conveyor environment, where objects on the conveyor are moving at a high rate of speed, this quickly becomes impractical. There was no way to measure these cubed shaped objects accurately and quickly. Presently, the responsibility to calculate the dim weight of the package has shifted to the shipper or carrier and in some cases even to the manufacturer. Lacking a dimensioning system the problem remained the same – getting millions of boxes measured properly so that they could be stored, located and delivered on time to the customer without under or over charging them..... Cubiscan 200-XIR

200-XIR cubiscan dimension weigh measure scale

The CubiScan 200-XIR is an above-the-belt cubing system, which uses infrared emitter/receiver technology to gather parcel dimensions at conveyor speeds of up to 600 feet per minute.

Similar to the 200-TL, the XIR is flexible and can be positioned around existing conveyor. It can interface directly to a computerized host or warehouse management system, and easily integrates with bar code scanning and scale equipment. Its flexibility and efficiency make it particularly useful in manned conveying applications where an operator scans bar codes and manually introduces parcels into a conveyor belt process.

The CubiScan 200-XIR is an economical, high-speed cubing solution that has the flexibility to adapt to a wide range of applications.
